14th Amendment WAS NOT Intended For Illegal Aliens

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States..."

If simply being born here ("anchor baby") makes a person a U.S. citizen, what is the purpose of, "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof"?

Why does the 14th Amendment not just say, "All persons born or naturalized in the United States are citizens of the United States..."

Because those additional words have a purpose!
Freed slaves were subject to the nation's laws and were granted citizenship by the Amendment.

But a baby born to foreigners crossing into the U.S. (especially illegally) are NOT subject to the jurisdiction of this nation. That baby is a citizen of his parents' country!
