himself from his investigation, then Congress should

– This
week reports indicated that the controversial “Trump dossier,” used during the
2016 presidential campaign to discredit then-candidate Donald Trump with
unverified allegations of misconduct, was sponsored, in part, by Hillary
Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee. These reports also
detail a coordinated effort by James Comey’s FBI to sponsor completion of the
dossier in order to investigate a misaligned connection between President Trump
and the Russian government, and to allegedly allow federal agencies to use FISA
to spy on Americans.Today, the Wall Street Journal Editorial Board called on Robert Mueller to resign from his role as special counsel to the Russian collusion investigation because “he lacks the critical distance to conduct a credible probe of the bureau he ran for a dozen years.” Congressman Biggs released the following statement:
“The Wall Street Journal is absolutely correct: Robert Mueller should recuse himself or resign from his investigation. After months of infamously-false allegations about President Trump colluding with Russians to influence the U.S. election, the real colluders appear to be none other than the Clinton campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and possibly the Obama-Comey-led FBI. It is not illegal or unethical for opposition research to occur during campaigns; however, it is the epitome of dishonesty to fraudulently accuse the opponent of extreme wrongdoing, worthy of possible impeachment, like the Democrats appear to have done this past year. Our democracy should never tolerate efforts to overthrow a President based on nefarious and deceitful gamesmanship.
“I have called on Mueller to recuse himself many times over the last several months. His relationship with Comey and his questionable hires of Clinton donors had already clouded his investigation before these new questions arose on the FBI’s involvement. If Robert Mueller does not have the integrity to remove himself from his investigation, then Congress should act. The American people must know his role in these alleged activities before his current investigation is allowed to continue.”
