Yes We Can!!! Despite Huge Democratic Blitzkrieg, GOP Wins In Battleground Georgia
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy with Congresswoman-elect Handel.
Republicans activists across the nation breathed a sigh of relief Tuesday night.
Democrats spent a staggering $28 million on the special election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of now HHS Secretary Tom Price, and for two months the polls showed them ahead.
They had a young but articulate candidate, excellent TV commercials, an impressive get out the vote campaign, and they registered thousands of new voters, but it was not enough.
Karen Handel is now U.S. Congresswoman-elect, and she promises to firmly support the conservative reform agenda.
AP called the race and Democrat Jon Ossoff trailed Handel by a 52-48 margin with 81% of precincts reporting.
The liberal Daily Kos said it best "Our head keeps telling us that even a narrow loss is a good sign for 2018. But our heart just needs a win.
"This is another loss despite Trump's low approval rating. It is another Republican victory that Trump can Tweet about.
"The message for Democrats is that trying to win moderate Republican voters is hopeless."
Last November, Trump carried the district by a narrow 48-47 percent. This was the most expensive House race in American history.
For every dollar Ossoff received in Georgia, he took in 9 from California.
Nate Silver, the former pollster for The New York Times, said "This is just about the most annoying possible outcome for Democrats. They have closed the gap in a lot of places, but not winning anywhere yet."
