Economy Update: Jobless claims rise to 274,000

Jobless claims in the United States increased by 17,000 to a seasonally-adjusted 274,000 for the week ended April 30. The figure remained below the 300,000 level that economists use a threshold for a healthy job market for the 61st consecutive week.
