44 percent of Republicans disapprove of House Speaker Paul Ryan — and even a greater number dislike Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a new Public Policy Polling survey shows.
Results, released May 11 2016 Wednesday, based on surveys of 1,222 registered voters:
Do you approve or disapprove of Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House?
Among Republicans:

  • ·       Disapprove: 44 percent.
  • ·       Approve: 40 percent.

  • ·       Disapprove: 48 percent.
  • ·       Approve: 30 percent.
"Paul Ryan's standing with Republicans nationally has declined precipitously since taking on the job as Speaker of the House," said Dean Debnam, Public Policy Polling's president. "They're not all that crazy about having him in that role, much less being the party's candidate for president."
Ryan is scheduled to meet with presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump on Thursday in a session that will center on "how to unify the Republican Party," the speaker said.
