Donald
Trump says that his strategy for Thursday night's GOP debate boils down to a
simple idea: "I want to be me." "I don't want to be unreal. I
want to be me. I have to be me," Trump said Sunday in an interview with
NBC's Meet the Press. "We have enough of that in Washington with pollsters
telling everybody what to say." . Trump told CNN’S Don Lemmon "You can't rely on pollsters
every time there's a question."
Trump also continued
to downplay his debate experience, telling NBC's Chuck Todd that he plans to
"counterpunch" only if he's attacked by the nine competitors will
join him on the debate stage.
"I think that
frankly I'd like to discuss the issues. I'm not looking to take anybody out or
be nasty to anybody," said Trump, who leads the GOP field in a new
NBC News/ Wall Street Journal poll out
Sunday.
Trump
also CNN’S Lemmon: If he ends up doing poorly in the debates -- and ultimately the
presidential race -- Trump said he'll "ride into the sunset and do some
more buildings and create some more jobs, and that's OK."
