As a member of the Financial Service Committee’s terrorism financing task force, I’ve heard from experts across the political spectrum on Iran’s role in sponsor of terrorism across the globe, from the Middle East to Washington D.C. Any sanction relief will only bolster their support for terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. That is why, as long as Iran remains the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, we should not dismantle economic sanctions and lift the arms embargoes.
As details of this deal emerge, I am more and more concerned that this looks nothing like that “anywhere, anytime” access the American people were promised by the current administration, but looks more like managed access by the Iranians. It is evident that the administration is more concerned about securing its “legacy”, than they are about the long term safety and stability of America, and its allies.
