Once again Barack Obama is choosing to ignore the Constitution and act by executive order to impose new EPA regulations on huge expanses of Arizona private lands and dictate how citizens use their own water.
I am proud to let you know that a bill Senator Jeff Flake and I co-sponsored to block this unprecedented power grab was approved by a key committee in the Senate and is heading to the floor for a vote.
I promise you that I will not stand idle as Barack Obama undermines our rule of law and will fight his abuse of power.
Barbara, it's a great honor to fight for Arizona... but to continue that fight, I'll need your continued support in the coming weeks and months.
Last week, The Arizona Republic called me "the most boisterous and effective critic President Barack Obama has."
I'll do whatever it takes to continue to defend both Arizona and our nation - including taking on The White House, The EPA, or whoever tries to undermine our nation's rule of law.
Arizonans are rightfully concerned that the federal government's unprecedented power grab under the EPA's flawed water rule would impose new costs and burdens on the use of private lands.
As Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Glenn Hamer said, "Under the EPA's plan, broad swaths of private land stand to come under federal regulation, imposing massive compliance costs on businesses and local governments".
Our state needs a strong defender in Washington to take on these tough issues - a fight I look forward to every day.
There is no greater honor than working hard to serve the people of Arizona in the United States Senate. I hope you will join me in this fight.
Sincerely,
John McCain
