Cross Post: Yellow Sheet Report
The fallout from Saturday’s meeting has already begun, as longtime Republican activist and AZGOP Director of Operations Phil Mason has resigned his post, one party official told our reporter. The source said that a variety of high-ranking Republicans – including Bruce Ash, Randy Pullen and party attorneys – have told Morrissey that he needs to “clean house” and replace the entire staff. “Thayer’s as guilty as Phil,” the source said, referring to Thayer Verschoor, the party’s executive director and Morrissey’s chief of staff. A GOP consultant said Morrissey needs to “take decisive action” swiftly if he hopes to keep his job: “If he doesn’t, then even people who supported him will start calling for his head. If he takes action, the chances of him staying chairman are 50/50.” A Romney delegate who was elected Saturday told our reporter that Morrissey ought to resign, but can’t, because of the turmoil it would cause for the party. “Through the election, we don’t need a change in the top position. Tom can try to run for re-election in January,” the delegate said.
