Scalia understood the constitution is the fragile thread which has held the country together through some very difficult periods in our history.
The US Senate can place a hold on any federal court nomination. Within an hour after the announcement of Scalia’s death Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced “The American people must have a voice in the selection of the next justice. Therefore this nomination should not be filled until we have a new president.”
Democrats have declared this to be “outrageous” but they forget the manner in which they treated Clarence Thomas , Robert Bork and other Republican nominees to federal courts.
It makes perfect sense to empower the American people to first elect a new president who will select the next Supreme Court Justice.
