Posted March 4, 2013 On Friday, March 1 the Republican National Committee held a luncheon in Washington, DC, to honor Black Republican Trailblazers . Chairman Reince Priebus  presented the Trailblazer Awards to Secretary William T. Coleman, Jr. and Robert J. Brown.

Among many accomplishments, Coleman was the first African American to serve as a Supreme Court Clerk, was appointed Secretary of Transportation under President Ford, advised eight former presidents, and is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Robert Brown, Chairman and CEO of B&C Associates, was a Special Assistant to President Nixon, working for the advancement of civil rights and the end of racial discrimination. He is a strong supporter of youth and education and is the president of the International Booksmart Foundation, which has shipped two million books to South Africa. Businessman David L. Steward was the luncheon’s keynote speaker. In his interview-style remarks, he discussed facing segregation as a child, the struggles and successes of entrepreneurship, and his book, Doing Business by the Good Book.
